Pinot Noir from
New Zealand – Otago

18.5-/20Equal proportions of clone 5 and 6 Pinot Noir from a single site in Bendigo, the fruit source for the previous vintages, 10% whole bunch, given a cold soak and fermentation initiated by indigenous yeast and fermented to 14.0% alc. The wine was matured in 40% new French oak for 11 months. Very dark, deep, near impenetrable heart of purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a full, deep bouquet of very ripe dark berry and plum aromas with notes of oak spices and dark herbs, all harmoniously interwoven. Full-bodied, this is densely concentrated and packed with rich and juicy flavours of spicy black plum fruits supported by significant tannin extraction. Good acidity is present providing tension, cut and balance, and leads to a lingering, racy finish. This is a rich, ripe and hearty, well-structured Pinot Noir that will match game meat over the next 6-8+ years. This is the most serious 36 Bottles Pinot Noir to date and no doubt reflects the vintage and efforts of proprietors Douglas Brett and Jane Young. 18.5-8/20 Jan 2012 RRP $32.00
