Anciano ’35 Year Old Vines’ Calatayud Garnacha 2015

Grenache from Spain


Full, even red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim. The bouquet is softly full and voluminous with ethereal aromas of fragrant ref berry fruits harmoniously melded with a subtle amalgam of earth, dried herbs and notes of cedar and oak. The aromatics show a soft, smooth density, unfolding a little spice. Full-bodied, the palate has a rounded core with good depth and intensity of savoury red berry fruits along with notes of plum, earth, dried herbs and cedar, The fruit sweetness unfolds to fill the mouth, and is balanced by grainy tannin extraction and structure, lending a near robust presence. The acidity is softly integrated and some alcoholic power emerges to provide drive, leading to a soft finish. This is a gently deep and intense, mouthfilling Garnacha with red fruits, earth, herbs and cedar notes on a robust palate. Match with slow cooked game meats and casseroles over the next 5+ years. Fruit from Garnacha vines, average age over 35 years, from Calatayud, hand-picked and fermented to 15.0% alc., 15% of the wine aged 4 months in American and French oak. 17.5+/20 Jul 2018 RRP $19.99
