Bouldevines Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

27 June,2012
The Walsh family have owned and farmed the land where their 31 ha vineyard is sited since 1935. Grapes have been part of Philip and Janey Walsh's life for more than 25 years, so they know how good their Pinot Noir can be. They are proud of the latest release, the 2010, just in time for winter. Here's my review of this wine made by Drew Ellis. www.bouldevines.co.nz

Bouldevines Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Marlborough

18-/20

Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with some garnet hues on rim. This has a rich nose of ripe dark raspberry fruit, lifted with aromatic notes of jam, spices and liquorice along with violetty florals. Medium-bodied, the palate features ripe, openly expressed, sweet raspberry fruit flavours, with good depth. Oaking is sensitive and in very good balance. Fine tannin extraction provides good structure and mouthfeel and a liveliness is enhanced by bright acidity. The fruit flows with drive to a sustained finish of sweetly ripe dark red berry fruit flavours. This is a classical, upfront and delightfully attractive Pinot Noir with the balance to keep 4-6 years. Match with roast duck or pork. Pinot Noir fruit from four blocks in the ‘Bouldevines' vineyard, destemmed and given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc. The wine was aged 10 months in 20% new French oak barriques. 18.0-/20 Jun 2012 RRP $29.95
