Domaine Rewa Central Otago Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand – Otago

Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale on edge. The bouquet is refined with intense aromas of lime fruit infused with mineral and secondary toast complexities, and is expressed with a refreshing steeliness. Medium to taste and elegantly proportioned, the flavours of lime fruit are enhanced by complexing toast and mineral elements and enriched by honey notes. The mouthfeel is harmoniously integrated and smooth flowing, the palate with soft, lacy acidity, and following a fine, tightly held core and line which provides good presence and depth. The wine carries to a soft finish with citrus, toast and honied nuances. This is a smooth, harmonious medium Riesling with some secondary toasty and honied flavours. Fruit WBP and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.4% alc. and 17 g/L RS, TA 9.0 g/L and pH 2.9. 125 dozen made. 17.5-/20 Jan 2015 RRP $24.00

Domaine Rewa Central Otago Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand – Otago

Brilliant straw-yellow colour, pale edged. The nose is stylishly concentrated with intense and penetrating aromas of white stonefruits and subtle citrus fruit notes entwined with complexing flinty, mineral reduction and melded with underlying nutty and toasty oak notes, and some creamy barrel-ferment suggestions. This has balance and detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is well-proportioned with finely concentrated core of white stonefruits, citrus fruits and complexing flint and mineral notes. The palate has creamy and nutty oak balanced by fine phenolic textures and crisp, lacy acidity, and the wine flows with good energy and line, leading to a lingering finish of stonefruit, flinty minerals and toasty oak. This is an elegantly concentrated Chardonnay with complex stonefruit, flint, nutty and toasty flavours on a balanced, fresh, fine-textured palate. Match with grilled seafood and roasted poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Epicurious’ vineyard, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 25% new oak, undergoing batonnage, and full MLF. RRP $37.00

Domaine Rewa Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Otago

Clones 5 and 113, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine aged 8 ½ months in 31% new French oak barriques. Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is gently voluminous with deep, primary dark raspberry fruit aromas, entwined with delicate herb notes, lifted violet florals and some oak toastiness that unfolds with aeration. Medium-bodied, vibrant, primary, dark red berry fruit and plum flavours form a finely concentrated core with good depth and intensity. The fruit is detailed and balanced by fresh dark herb and spicy, toasty oak nuances. This has good extraction and structure that supports the fruit, providing substantial grip and mouthfeel. The tannins are very fine-grained, forming a firm line that carries the dark fruit flavours to a long, elegant finish. This is an elegantly proportioned, youthful Pinot Noir with ripe dark berry and plum fruit, with a fine, firm structure. Match with lamb, beef, venison and harder cheeses over the next 6-7+ years. 390 dozen made. 18.0/20 Jan 2015 RRP $38.00
