Domaine Rewa - Wine2Trade Portfolio

01 October,2010

Domaine Rewa is the Central Otago vineyard and wine venture of Philippa Foubert, a New Zealander living in France.  A Francophile, she was inspired by the wines of Burgundy to plant vines.  Her 5.5 ha ‘Epicurious Vineyard’ in Lowburn, in the foothills of the Pisa Range, was established in 1997 and is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and  Pinot Gris, the latter and some of other fruit also sold under contract.   The vineyard was certified BioGro organic in 2015 and is tended by Grant Rolston and Gary Ford of Vinewise who also employ biodynamic regimes.  Philippa has Pete Bartle of VinPro as her winemaker, the first Domaine Rewa wines were from the 2011 vintage.  Production will be limited to around 850 dozen made annually.  The Domaine Rewa range comprises Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.  www.domainerewa.com

Domaine Rewa Central Otago Riesling 2014

Riesling from New Zealand – Otago

18/20
Bright pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on the rim. The bouquet is refined with well-concentrated and youthfully taut aromas of delicately sift lime fruit and white florals, and a ubtle layer of toasty secondary notes melded with a little honeysuckle and mineral elements. Medium in sweetness and light-bodied, the palate has good depth and a concentrated heart of lime fruit, white florals and nuances of savoury honeysuckle, complexed by secondary toasty nuances. The palate has good linearity and follows a light-textured line with fresh, poised underlying acidity. The mouthfeel is taut and carries to a positive, dryish, fine-textured finish with balanced subtly succulent lime and honey flavours. This is a taut, fresh, medium Riesling with lime fruit entwined with honeysuckle and toast complexities on a fine-textured, dryish, linear palate. Serve with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 4-5+ years. Riesling fruit WBP and fermented in stainless-steel to 11.2% alc. and 25 g/L RS, TA 7.17 g/L and pH 2.91. 18.0/20 Jan 2017 RRP $24.00

Bright, even straw-yellow colour with lemony hues. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with bright and intense aromas of citrus and white stonefruits interwoven with an amalgam of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes along with subtle lemon-curd MLF elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has fresh and lively flavours of citrus and stonefruits entwined with creamy and nutty oak elements and lemon-curd MLF detail. Domaine Rewa Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Otago

18/20
Clones 5 and 113, hand-picked, destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine aged 8 ½ months in 31% new French oak barriques. Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is gently voluminous with deep, primary dark raspberry fruit aromas, entwined with delicate herb notes, lifted violet florals and some oak toastiness that unfolds with aeration. Medium-bodied, vibrant, primary, dark red berry fruit and plum flavours form a finely concentrated core with good depth and intensity. The fruit is detailed and balanced by fresh dark herb and spicy, toasty oak nuances. This has good extraction and structure that supports the fruit, providing substantial grip and mouthfeel. The tannins are very fine-grained, forming a firm line that carries the dark fruit flavours to a long, elegant finish. This is an elegantly proportioned, youthful Pinot Noir with ripe dark berry and plum fruit, with a fine, firm structure. Match with lamb, beef, venison and harder cheeses over the next 6-7+ years. 390 dozen made. 18.0/20 Jan 2015 RRP $38.00
