Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Marlborough 17.5+/20Bright starw-yellow colour with slight lemon-gold hues, pale on rim. This is tight and fine in aromatics, with stonefruit, oak spice and flint elements intermingling. Dry, with a rich, fulsome texture and good weight, this has lush flavours of yellow stonefruits complexed with mealy elements, nuts and oak spices. The palate has depth and real presence. The acidity is restrained, but this has good liveliness and balance, and the finish is sustained, the flavours unfolding more nuances with time in the glass. This is a rich Pinot Gris with an interesting amalgam of stonefruit and oak notes that will match Middle Eastern and Mediterranean inspired fare over the next 3-4 years. ‘Fairhall Downs' vineyard fruit hand-picked and WBP, fermented, a small portion in seasoned oak, to 14.0% alc. and 3.7 g/L rs. 17.5+/20 Feb 2012 RRP $25.95

Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Marlborough 17.5+/20Hand-picked fruit indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins, then aged 11 months in French barriques. Even ruby-red with garnet hues to the colour, light on rim. This has a softly full nose, lifted with aromas of strawberries and red florals and subtle savoury, secondary complexities of dried herbs along with spicy oak notes. Medium-full bodied, lifted red fruits and spice elements are presented with lusciousness, the flavours forming a good concentrated core, gently unfolding and filling the palate. Fine tannin extraction and bright acidity balance the fruit sweetness and provide supple textures and linear drive. This is a lively and lifted, lush Pinot Noir with refined tannin grip, just beginning to develop interest. Match with Asian poultry and pork dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 17.5+/20 Feb 2012 RRP $35.95
