Hawksdrift ‘Reserve' ‘Barrel Fermented' Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand – Marlborough

18+/20

Fruit from the Lower Wairau, hand-picked, WBP and fermented partially by indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak barriques to 13.9% alc., and aged in these barrels for 12 months, some of the barrels undergoing MLF. Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is very fine and elegant with attractively ripe lime and floral aromatics unfolding delicate herb and mineral notes. Dry and medium-full-bodied, refined flavours of florals and limes build with a distinctive herb, nectarine and fennel-like core. Oaking is very sensitive and unobtrusive. This has a very soft, creamy texture, with discreet acidity providing good tension through the palate line. The flavours grow and blossom on the finish with lush layers of flavour with mint, herbs and smoke that linger. This is a refined, seamlessly concentrated and distinctively flavoured Sauvignon Blanc to match with seafood and poultry over the next 3-4 years. 18.0+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $42.99
