Incognito Aromatic Releases

25 January,2012
The ‘Incognito' brand has provided an outlet for wine producers to release their excess wines under a different label at reduced prices without harming their premium branding. Created by the Fine Wine Delivery Co., the ‘Incognito' wines provide their customers with wines that may normally cost considerably more, and are thus bargains. It seems a win-win situation for all concerned. The brand has proven successful over the three years it has been offered, and is now an established and significant component of the company's portfolio. The choice of wines is conducted by the Fine Wine Delivery Co. judging panel of Matt Deller, Chris Williams and Andrew Bulman. These are the latest aromatic wines to come through the Incognito selection process. www.finewinedelivery.co.nz

FEATURED WINES IN THIS REVIEW

Incognito Waipara Valley Riesling 2009

Riesling from New Zealand – Canterbury & Waipara

17+/20
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a youthful hint of green, pale on rim. This has a very soft, rounded and gentle bouquet of honey, toast and little kero harmoniously interwoven with aromas of limes, florals and minerals. Medium-dry to medium in sweetness, racy acidity and a slippery mouthfeel are immediately apparent. A deep core of complex toast, mineral and honey flavours unfolds to fill the palate. This has a combination of richness and briskness that leads to a lively, dry but sustained finish showing secondary toast nuances. Serve this full-flavoured, slippery Riesling with Asian inspired seafood and poultry dishes over the next 2-4 years. Fruit from a single vineyard hand-harvested and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 11.5% alc. and 22 g/L rs. 17.0+/20 Jan 2012 RRP $13.99

Incognito Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand – Wairarapa & Wellington

17.5-/20
Single vineyard, low-cropped fruit fermented to 14.0% alc. and 8 g/L rs, the wine matured on lees for 4 months. Bright straw-yellow colour with a green hue, pale edged. This has a full, voluminous bouquet with restrained aromas of pure, ripe pear fruit with a little smokiness and flint interest. Off-dry to taste, the flavours of pears are expressed gently, and with the round, soft textures, this possesses balance and harmony on the palate. There is good weight and depth, a little alcohol warmth and lowish acidity adding to the richness and sweetness of the flavours. The wine finishes with dry stonefruit flavours and moderate length. A gently, restrained Pinot Gris with subtle richness but good body. Match with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. 17.5-/20 Jan 2012 RRP $13.99
