Lani Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand – Marlborough

17.5+/20

Fruit from Marlborough fermented to 13.5% alc. and 6.3 g/L rs. Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a very fine, but deeply concentrated bouquet redolent of rose-petals and Turkish Delight along with subtle notes of spice and flinty lees-like elements. Off-dry to taste, this has good depth and concentration of red florals with hints of exotic tropical fruits and complexing herbs, building with richness on palate to show some unctuousness. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded, the phenolic handling excellent, and the acidity quite restrained, but sufficient for tension and poise. The wine finishes with moderate length, showing an attractive floral purity and some sweetness. This is a classically elegant Gewurztraminer with subtle exotic fruitiness and balanced richness. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 3-4 years. 17.5+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $TBA
