Murray's Barn Sauvignon Blanc 2011

20 February,2012
Murray's Barn is a price-fighting label for Steve Hammond of Terrace Heights Estate in Marlborough with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The wines are made by Sam Smail of Whitehaven winery. There is a real barn, a landmark in Marlborough, painted bright red, situated in SH 63, west of Renwick town. It was built for storage for the Hammond family in the early 1900s, on Boyce Street, and was moved to its present site in 1970. It is now used to house viticultural tools and machinery. This review is of the latest Sauvignon Blanc release. www.murraysbarn.co.nz

Murray's Barn Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand – Marlborough

16/20

Very pale-straw colour with pale green hues, this has a soft and fresh nose, quite delicate and near ethereal with gentle passionfruit, capsicum and lime aromas lifted with fermentation esters, Dry to taste, this is light-bodied, quite elegant in proportion. Lifted, fresh, red capsicum and currant flavours intermingle with bubble-gum like esters. The palate is crisp, and dry with soft textures and balanced acidity, which lead to a good, up-front, fruity finish of passionfruit and blackcurrants. This is a light, balanced, youthfully fresh Sauvignon Blanc to serve as an aperitif and with antipasto over the next 2 years. Marlborough fruit cool-fermented to 13.2% alc. and 2.6 g/L rs. 16.0/20 Feb 2012 RRP $9.99
