Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ Tempranillo Rosado 2017

14 December,2018

One of the best value wines imported and distributed in this country by Stephen Bennett MW is the Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ VdeT Castilla Garnacha. The wine is made by Bodegas Navarro Lopez, based in Valdepenas, and specialising in the wines of Tierra de Castilla. Expansion has seen growth of the company in other regions, notably Rioja. The Garnacha wine has proven to be a veritable bargain in New Zealand, and indicates Stephen’s prowess in sourcing Spanish wines that are popular here. The sibling Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ Tempranillo Rosado wine has been introduced to meet the needs for value, quality rosé wine. I review the 2017 vintage here. Rojo ‘Gran Rojo’ Tempranillo Rosado 2017

Rose from Spain

17.5/20

Very pale salmon-pink colour with some depth, a little lighter on the rim with slight purple hues. The nose is fresh and bright with aromas of strawberries and cream with notes of redcurrants, red florals and an amalgam of fresh herbs and mouthwatering minerals. Dryish to taste and medium-light bodied, the palate has an aromatic heart with flavours of strawberries and cream with notes of lifted red florals, herbs and confectionary. This is thirst-quenching with lively acidity and the wine carries along a light, drying phenolic-textured line, carrying to a light, lingering nuanced finish of florals, berry fruits and confectionary. This is a fresh and aromatic dryish rosé with strawberries, florals, some herb nuances and lifted confectionary on a light, drying-textured palate. Serve with antipasto and tapas over the next 2 years. Tempranillo fruit fermented to 11.5% alc. and 3 g/L RS. 17.5/20 Dec 2018 RRP $14.95
