Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Otago    18.5-/20
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is very full with deep and densely concentrated aromas of very ripe black plum fruits, along with liquorice notes dark red florals and oak spices. Full-bodied, masses of richly sweet and plump flavours of black plums, and blackberry jam fill the palate. This is lush and fulsome, quite opulent, with flavours of spices and cedary oak unfolding. The fruit is backed by supple, ripe tannins, with acidity showing and providing some energy. The flavours flow to an open, sweetly ripe fruited and well-oaked, long finish. This is a full, openly accessible and opulent Pinot Noir showing very ripe fruit and considerable oaking. Match with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 7-8+ years. Syrah from New Zealand – Hawke’s Bay    19+/20
Hand-picked fruit from the company's Gimblett Gravels vineyard, destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the components aged 12 months in barrel then given a further 4 months in barrel after blending. Very dark, deep, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues. The bouquet is very intense, tightly bound and finely concentrated showing ripe black fruits with savoury graphite, black earth and savoury minerally complexities, revealing layers of Asian spices and a little bacon-like oak. Full-bodied, this is packed with penetrating flavours of fully-ripened black berry fruits and black plums, laced with flavours of liquorice, spices and black pepper along with nuances of dark violetty florals that intermingle with oak. The palate is seriously extracted, the tannins driving the palate line with fresh acidity. Fine textures and lively tension provide a degree of style and cut, and lead to a very long, lingering finish with liquorice, spices and oak. This is a powerfully concentrated and vibrant, lively Syrah packed with ripe fruit and matching spices and oak. Merlot from New Zealand – Hawke’s Bay    18.5+/20
62% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Syrah and 12% Cabernet Franc, from the company's Gimblett Gravels vineyard, hand-picked and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barrel, then given a further 4 months in barrel after blending. Very full, impenetrable, even, black-red colour. The nose is full, dense and concentrated, but still a little restrained at present, showing ripe, black plum and black berry fruit aromas with lifted violetty nuances and new oak spicing. Full-bodied, this has great presence, with full, plump and densely packed flavours of black plums infused with beautifully balanced spicy oak. Nuances of florals, pepper and liquorice unfold in waves, and fill the mouth smoothly and harmoniously. This has serious extract, with significant tannins, which are extremely ripe and fine in texture. The structure supports the fruit richness which carries through to a long, spicy, oaky finish. This is a ripe and very rich fruited Merlot-based wine with refined, but serious extraction and excellent balance. Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand – Hawke’s Bay    19.5-/20
Very full, saturated, purple-black-red colour. This has a very tightly bound and concentrated bouquet of very ripe blackcurrant essence, forming a deep and dense core, the aromatics expressed with great clarity. Layers of spices, herbs and oak toast unfold in waves. Full-bodied, the palate features very ripe blackcurrant and spicy black plum fruit flavours, spiced heavily with liquorice and new oak toast. This has richness and is exotic and decadent, and supported by powerful extraction. The tannins are coating, but are matched and balanced by the fruit depth, and enlivened by excellent acid tension and energy. The wine has great drive and a very long, sustained finish with bold black fruits and strong oak spices. A powerful and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine, this has great richness, oaking and the structure to cellar for 10-15+ years. Serve with roasted and grilled red meat dishes.
