Very dark, black-red colour, near impenetrable, a little lighter on the rim, and youthful in appearance. This has a firm and tightly bound nose with intense and penetrating aromas of blackcurrants and redcurrants, lifted by dark herbs and soft, dark-red floral, unfolding nuances of blackcurrant leaf and iron-earth. Medium-full bodied, this has an elegantly concentrated, firm and tightly packed, intensely flavoured palate with blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit, along with leaf, iron and mineral notes and subtle aromatic floral lift. The fruit is vibrant and lusciously rich, succulent and balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction and structure providing good linearity. Fresh, lacy acidity lends energy and vitality, and the wine carries to a long, elegant, lingering finish. This is an intensely concentrated, tightly bound Cabernet Franc with succulent and penetrating flavours of black and red currants with leaf and floral detail on a vibrantly fresh, fine-structured palate. Match with roasted lamb and beef dishes, and with semi-hard cheeses over the next 8-10+ years. Te Awanga fruit from vines around 30 y.o., fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 30% new oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Mar 2017 RRP $45.00
