Pisa Range Estate ‘Black Poplar Block’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand – Otago
Review Date - 28-Feb-2018

19-/20

Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black-purple tints, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and deep with well-proportioned aromas of ripe black cherry and berry fruit with nuances of dark-red plums along with thyme herbs, unveiling nuances of spice and liquorice. The nose possesses richness and intensity. Full-bodied, the palate has full and lusciously vibrant fruit flavours of dark-red and black cherries and berryfruit, with plums and blackberries, entwined with subtle notes of herbs and liquorice. The flavours are near-opulent and mouthfilling, and the fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin structure with integrated acidity. The flavours are broad and mouthfilling, and underlined by some alcohol power adding to the sweetness. The wine carries easily to a long, succulent finish. This is a lusciously rich and sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with ripe black cherry, berry and plum flavours with herb and liquorice nuances underlined by fine tannin and some alcohol power. Match with beef, lamb and venison over the next 6-7+ years. Hand-picked fruit from 4 ha of vines planted in 1995, fermented to 15.0% alc., the wine aged one year in one-third new French oak barriques. 19.0-/20 Mar 2018 RRP $56.00
