Redmetal ‘Resolution’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand – Hawke’s Bay
Review Date - 17-Sep-2014

19/20

Very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, a little lighter on rim. The nose is full and voluminous with powerful and deeply concentrated aromas of ripe black berry and plum fruits. Lifted and aromatic new oak nuances and spice elements are harmoniously entwined with the fruit. Medium-full bodied, densely packed ripe fruit flavours of black and dark red berryfruit and plums are complexed by nuances of earthy minerals, iron-earth, sweet oak and subtle spice elements. The fruit is youthfully sweet, forming a concentrated and rich core, and is supported by plenty of fine-grained tannin extraction, proving a firm, fulsome mouthfeel. The wine has presence and carries through to a very long, black-fruited finish. This is a concentrated, well-structured Merlot with ripe black fruit flavours that will develop over the next 8-10+ years. Serve with roast beef, lamb and venison, and with hard cheeses. 100% Merlot, fermented to 14.0% alc., with hand-plunging and pump-over, the wine aged 14 months in oak, 90% French and 10% American, with 50% new. 19.0/20 Sep 2014 RRP $60.00
