2013 marks the tenth year for one of the great events for
New Zealand wine lovers. Hot Red Hawke’s
Bay offers a broad and current snapshot of the Hawke’s Bay wine scene, and
attendees can taste some of the best wines made in the country. Chardonnay is the leading white variety, but
there should be exciting Viognier, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and
Sauvignon Blanc wines. The Bordeaux red
varieties are arguably supreme and the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet
Franc and Malbec wines made in Hawke’s Bay lead the country. The new star, Syrah, is possibly best made in
Hawke’s Bay too. For those who hanker
for something different, a raft of innovative varieties have found their way to
The Bay, and no doubt there will be some excellent examples. Attendees will be able to taste over 150
wines from 19 winery exhibitors.
The wineries showing their wines are: Alpha Domus, Babich,
Black Barn, Church Road, Pask, Clearview, Coopers Creek, Crossroads, Elephant
Hill, Esk Valley, Mills Reef, Mission, Ngatarawa, Rod McDonald, Sileni. Te Awa,
Trinity Hill, Vidal and Villa Maria. You’ll
be able to talk to the proprietors and winemakers for many of these exhibitors.
