Since 2001, the new season Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has been sail-raced across the Cook Strait from its home to Wellington, in a fun and competitive celebration, somewhat akin to that of Beaujolais Nouveau, except that the wine is arguably much more serious! The cargo comprises bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and some of their winemakers aboard a number of yachts.

Once the yachts are docked in Wellington, the wine is made available for tasting, and served with Marlborough produce "from the sea, land and larder” on platters. Wine enthusiasts are invited to enjoy the wine and food, and meet the winemakers, and hear their stories, and find out what makes their wines world famous! I’ve found the 2014 Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs deliciously accessible and enjoyable, being from a bountiful crop. There are many wines worthy of discovering. Watch the yachts arrive and enjoy their booty!
