Waiheke Island produces some of this country’s finest, rarest and most prestigious wines, from small and generally steep-site vineyards. The Bordeaux-varietal wines excel, along with Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier. But there are many other successful varieties and styles. It is only over the last decade or so that the wine from Waiheke have become more accessible, as volumes have slowly grown, and distribution increased. The wines, once seen as expensive, are becoming more affordable as well.

The Waiheke Island of Wine Expo will showcase over 90 artisan wines from 18 different producers: Awaroa, Batch, Cable Bay, Frenchmans Hill Estate, Goldie Wines, The HayPaddock, Kennedy Point, Man O’ War, Mudbrick, Obsidian, Passage Rock, Peacock Sky, PoderiCrisci, SOHO, Tantalus, Te Motu, Te Whau and Woodside Hill. The winemakers and proprietors will be on hand to discuss their wines, their vineyards and winemaking.

The Trade and Media session runs from 2.30 pm – 5.00 pm, and registrations must be made with Jenny Holmes of the Waiheke Winegrowers Association.
