This is the ninth year of the Wairarapa Wines Harvest
Festival and it has become one of the most popular among wine lovers due to its
‘grass roots’ philosophy. It marks the
start of vintage for the district’s wine growers. Iit’s a family day out in the country with a
focus on trying some new and hard-to-find wines, eating some delicious food and
being entertained, all in a relaxed and natural setting, with the whole
experience not too hard on the pocket.
The venue is ‘The Cliffs Riverside Reserve’ on the banks of
the Ruamahanga River, near the end of Dakins Road, just 10 minutes drive from
Carterton and Masterton. It’s extremely
accessible by car (make sure you have a nominated driver!), but if you don’t
want to drive, there are train and shuttle service options.
The festival features the wines of the wider Wairarapa
region. The wineries exhibiting (to date) are: Borthwick Vineyard, Cambridge Road, Cottier Estate, Fairmont Estate, Gladstone Vineyard, Hudson Vineyard, Johner Estate, Julicher Estate, Loopline Vineyard, Lynfer Estate,Matahiwi Estate, Murdoch James Estate, Paper Road Vineyard, Paulownia Estate, Schubert Wines and Urlar.
The food is also Wairarapa based
with producers, cafés
and restaurants making their wares available.
Art exhibitions and displays add interest. The food exhibitors include: Bar Salute, Cafe Mirabelle, Clareville Bakery, Entice Gourmet, Gladstone Vineyard Cafe, La Bella Italia, Paper Road Restaurant, Suhi Planet, Wakelin House
Tickets are limited to 2000 issued and there will be no gate
