Bragato Wine Awards 2012 – Trophy Winners

By August 24, 2012No Comments
The trophy for the ‘Champion Wine of the Show’ at the 2012 Bragato Wine Awards was presented to the Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Ihumatao’ Auckland Chardonnay 2011 at the Bragato Wine Awards Dinner last night. The fruit for the wine was grown by Brett Donaldson at the Ihumatao vineyard near Auckland International Airport for Villa Maria. In addition to winning the champion award, the wine also won the ‘Bill Irwin Trophy for Champion Chardonnay’ and the ‘Sustainability Trophy’.

Villa Maria also took two other trophies at this Bragato Wine Awards, for Champion Merlot and Champion Other Red Wine. The company has had a wonderful track record in wine shows over the years, with their Chardonnay wines being particularly successful. Six gold medals were won by Villa Maria at the Bragato Wine Awards this year, in addition to the ‘Single Vineyard – Ihumatao’ Chardonnay 2011, and these included the Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Keltern’ Chardonnay 2011.
