36 Bottles – ‘Winesmiths’ Douglas Brett and Jane Young

06-May-2011
The ‘36 Bottles' label harks back to the first-ever vintage and number of bottles made in 1999 by wine lover Douglas Brett in his garage. Douglas has long harboured a passion to make wine and 36 Bottles is the coming together of his dream with life-partner Jane Young, who hails from Central Otago, to craft wine based on the negotiant model of Burgundy. Their network of friends has provided them with fruit from quality growers in the Cromwell district and the skills of talented winemakers Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen of Maude Winery in Wanaka, in making their wines to their parameters. With Patrick Caudle in marketing, John Ross in finance and Jane's daughter Emma in operations, the 36 Bottles team call themselves ‘winesmiths', artisan craftspeople, hand-making and promoting their wine from the heart. The current and newly-released wines are reviewed here. www.36bottles.co.nz
