8 Ranges – Inspired by the Central Otago Mountains

14-Aug-2013
‘8 Ranges’ is the Central Otago wine label of Trevor Deaker and Mark Borrie with wines from the tiny ‘Tussock Ridge’ vineyard on Hillview Road, Alexandra. The site has views of eight ranges of mountains, hence the name. Their label has peaks symbolizing the ranges and a ‘v’ represents the Clutha River carving a valley through the mountains. The horizontal line on the label represents the Central Otago Rail Trail which passes close by the vineyard. The vineyard was established in 2001 and just under 3 ha of vines are planted, to Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir clones 115, 667 and 5. Viticulture is to the care of Gary Crabbe. Anthony Worch made the vintages from 2006 to 2009, with Lucie Lawrence of the Aurum Winery, near Cromwell making the 2010 to 2012 wines. From 2013, the winemaking returned to Anthony at the nearby Alexandra Vintners. www.8ranges.co.nz
