Akaroa Winery 2011 and 2010 Releases

24-Aug-2012

It is a pleasure to see Allan Ransley and Timberly Hughes continue to make progress with the releases of their 2011 vintage and 2010 wines following the 2009s that I tasted and reviewed in March, earlier this year. (Click here to see my review.) The Akaroa Winery wines are based on the produce from 2.2 ha of vines over three sites on a 26 ha property in the Takamatua Valley near Akaroa on Banks Peninsula, Christchurch. The vines have good maturity, being planted in 1995. Allan and Timberly purchased the vineyard and winery in 2001 and have built up the impetus to put their wines on the market only recently. Part of the consolidation is the AgriQuality organic certification of the vineyard. Allan tends the vines and Timberly makes the wines. takamatuavalley.com
