Aronui and Tohu 2013 Releases from Kono Beverages

23-Jun-2014
The evolution of the first Maori-owned wine producing company has been a remarkable story of growth. ‘Tohu’, established in 1998, has a sister label, ‘Aronui’ introduced in 2013, and together come under the Kono Beverages umbrella, which itself is part of the larger Kono beverage and food business. The differentiation of Tohu and Aronui is clear; the Tohu wines representing the produce of the company’s Awatere vineyard holdings, and Aronui coming essentially from the ‘Whenua Matua’ vineyard in the Moutere, Nelson. The vineyards have separate viticultural teams which are linked with the winemaking by Bruce Taylor, based at the company’s winery in the Awatere Valley. Here, I review a selection of 2013 white wine releases under the ‘Aronui’ and ‘Tohu’ labels. www.aronuiwines.co.nzwww.tohuwines.co.nz
