Ata Mara Pinot Gris 2011 and Pinot Noir 2010

04-Mar-2013

Ata Mara is the brand of Te Mara Estate based in Central Otago. It is owned by Janiene Bayliss and David Pratt who have a 27 ha site, established in 2001 on terraces in the Lowburn/Pisa sub-region, first releasing wines from the 2007 vintage. 60% of the vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir, with 20% to Pinot Gris, 10% to Riesling, with a small amount of Gruner Veltliner of which 2013 will be the first vintage. Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen of Maude Wines are the contracted winemakers and James Dicey the viticulturist. The Te Mara Estate wines are all single-vineyard, estate-grown expressions, with the exception of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc sourced by the winemakers to complement the rest of the range for market requirements. Janiene and David are both Kiwis and while spending time in New Zealand, are resident in the U.K. running the business from there servicing the European market to where the majority of their wine is exported. www.temaraestate.com
