Ataahua Wines – Waipara Valley Beauty

12-Oct-2011
The Ataahua vineyard on Church Road is one of the oldest in the Waipara Valley, first planted in the early 1980s, forming part of Waipara Springs and Hutt Creek Vineyards. It was purchased in 1995 by Andrew Grant and Stephanie Henderson-Grant who have long been involved in the wine industry, Stephanie the winemaker at Waipara Springs until 2005. The vineyard comprises three blocks with mature Merlot and Pinot Noir, planted in the early 1990s, and Gewurztraminer planted in 2005 and 2006. Ataahua means ‘beautiful' in Maori. The first vintage of Ataahua wines from the Grant family was with the 2008 vintage, the other varieties sourced from local growers. The new and current releases are reviewed here. www.ataahuawine.co.nz
