Bannock Brae ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir 2011

09-Feb-2015
The ‘Bannock Brae’ label is one of Central Otago’s most successful, with the Pinot Noir wines winning a host of gold medals since the first vintage in 2001. Owners Crawford and Catherine Brown have consolidated their holdings on Cairnmuir Road, Bannockburn to 2 ha, to produce Gruner Veltliner and biennially, a rosé, in addition to a Riesling from neighbour’s fruit to supplement their Pinot Noir. The flagship wine is the ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir which is a selection of the ‘best of the best’, the remaining wine making up the second tier, but also very good ‘Goldfields’ Pinot Noir. The Browns had Jen Parr as their contracted winemaker for the 2011 vintage. Here, I review the 2011 ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir. www.bannockbrae.co.nz
