Bisquertt ‘Petirrojo’ 2013 Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere

13-Aug-2014
The Bisquertt family winery was established in 1978 by Osvaldo Bisquertt, one of the pioneers of winegrowing in the Colchagua Valley in Chile. Though a new region, it has quickly become highly regarded for its red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and Malbec. Bisquertt has two notable vineyards, ‘El Rulo’ in Peralillo and ‘El Chequen’ in Marchihue, with vines planted from 1999 and 2000 respectively. Felipe Gutierrez is the agronomist and winemaker, and Vina Bisquertt has Alberto Antonini as their consultant. www.bisquertt.cl Here, I review the new 2013 releases of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere under the ‘Petirrojo’ tier, named after a small native bird. The wines are distributed in New Zealand by Mineral Wine. www.mineralwine.co.nz
