Black Cottage Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2014

17-Nov-2014
The introduction of a tier above a standard range of wines can be seen as a positive sign of growth and a desire to broaden the market reach of the brand, showing the winemaker is capable of greater things. Dave Clouston’s ‘Black Cottage’ Marlborough range of wines is positioned below his premium ‘Two Rivers’ label, but it has proven to be a runaway success; Dave describes its increasing popularity "I think we have created a monster”. The most important wine in terms of production and turnover is the Sauvignon Blanc. I recently reviewed the 2014 vintage release (click here to see), the wine an excellent, refreshingly elegant wine. Dave has had ‘Reserve’ editions of this wine made previously. For it to add to the success of the brand, it needs to be of ‘better’ quality and possibly be of a different style. Here, I review the Black Cottage ‘Reserve’ Sauvignon Blanc 2014. The wine has sweeter fruit with tropical nuances rather than the passionfruit notes of the regular bottling. www.blackcottagewines.co.nz
