Black Estate ‘Home’ Pinot Noir 2013

20-Aug-2015
The Naish family have clearly differentiated the fruit sources for their single vineyard bottlings with clear-cut labelling. The wines from the original estate 6 km north east of the Waipara Junction in the Omihi sub-district are labelled ‘Home’. Those from what was Spye Farm are now called ‘Damsteep’, whereas the wines from the old Schuster property are called ‘Netherwood’. All three are distinctly different, and the capturing of their individual character is of great importance in the reflection of site and terroir. Here, I review the ‘Home’ Pinot Noir 2013 from an excellent growing season. It makes an interesting comparison with the ‘Damsteep’ Pinot Noir 2013 which I reviewed in March, earlier this year (click here to see my review). www.blackestate.co.nz
