Blanket Hills ‘Slow Burn’ Chardonnay 2010

13-Sep-2012

Rod McDonald has become an even busier man since he left Vidals Estate in 2006, setting up his own brand, Rod McDonald Wines with multiple tiers and labels, in addition to consulting and making the wines for Frizzell, Osawa, Bridge Pa, and Cypress, as well as a number of others around the country. I know that the distinctive style of wines that Rod makes - the consumer-friendly, up-front and well-flavoured expressions that most importantly are found very appealing by wine consumers, are also very successful on the wine show judging circuit, where quality, balance and character is essential. One can only wonder at the drive and ability the man has, and he does it all with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. The Blanket Hills wines are named after the Hawke's Bay hills, Rod reckoning they look like crumpled blankets on a giant un-made bed. He reserves this label for "his bigger, more voluptuous and unashamedly comfortable and generous wines”. Here is my review of the new ‘Slow Burn' Chardonnay 2010. www.rmwines.co.nz
