Blanket Hills ‘Slow Burn’ Chardonnay 2012 – Second Bottling

11-Sep-2013
This is a review of the second bottling of Rod McDonald’s ‘Blanket Hills’ ‘Slow Burn’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012. My initial review was in April, earlier this year, and sales have dictated a further release. The Blanket Hills wines are, according to Rod, "bigger, more voluptuous and unashamedly comfortable and generous” in style. Designed to be consumer-friendly, they have proven to be just that. Of course, as with all second bottlings, the wine may vary. The best winemakers will ensure the bottlings are as close to being identical as can be. Here is my review of the new release. It seems a little lighter, but fresher, with the potential to put on more richness with some bottle age. www.rmwines.co.nz
