Brodie Estate Martinborough Chardonnay 2014

16-Sep-2015
Brodie Estate is the boutique Pinot Noir vineyard of James and Ann Brodie who planted 4.05 ha of Dijon clones 777, 667, 114, 115 and 5 in 2001 on their 9 ha property in Dublin Road in Martinborough. As well as the vines, the Brodies have olives for oil, and run the cellar door and a cottage for accommodation. Ann has her artist studio on site as well. The Brodies give a lot of thought to their wines, and they are made in their winery on the property by James with consultancy advice from James Walker. Besides the annual production of approx. 1,000 cases of Pinot Noir red wine, Brodie Estate have made a rose and sweet wine from the fruit. In 2014, they obtained Chardonnay from the ‘Croft’ vineyard for their first foray with another variety. The wine was vinified with the use of a new puncheon, which has added positive, but strong oak input. They have repeated the Chardonnay exercise in 2015, and it will be interesting to see this wine with a reduction in the oaking. www.brodieestate.co.nz
