Ceres 2015 Black Rabbit Riesling, and 2014 Composition Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir

30-Sep-2015
The Dicey family is one of Central Otago’s most influential, with Robin Dicey having a major role in the establishment of many of the best vineyards in the region, and his sons James and Matt playing significant and continuing roles in viticulture and winemaking. The family have their own brand, ‘Ceres’ for wines based on the ‘Inlet’, ‘Black Rabbit’, ‘Full Circle’ and ‘Swansong’ vineyards, all in the Bannockburn sub-region. I’ve followed the Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir wines since their first releases of nearly a decade ago. Most of the wines have been blends of the various vineyards and labelled ‘Composition’. As the vineyards grow in maturity and the resultant wines display individuality, single vineyard bottlings will be inevitable. The ‘Full Circle’ vineyard, planted in 1992, and one of the first to be planted on Felton Road has already yielded vineyard designated Pinot Gris and Riesling. Here, I review the first ‘Black Rabbit’ Riesling, from the 2015 vintage, along with the 2014 ‘Composition’ Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. www.cereswines.co.nz
