Charles and Charles Columbia Valley 2014 Rosé and 2013 Cabernet Syrah

15-Jul-2015
While the American wines of Oregon are well-recognised in New Zealand, those of Washington State are less-known. The Columbia Valley AVA, the largest of the state now has over 16,000 ha of vines, and encompasses a broad range of varietals due to the diverse range of climates in what is generally seen as ‘continental’. The wines have created much excitement in the United States and internationally, and now distributor Procure Liquor are importing examples. www.procureliquor.co.nz  Charles and Charles is a Columbia Valley collaboration founded in 2008 between Charles Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines) and Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, Bieler Pere & Fils, and Gotham Project). They make four wines: Rosé, a Cabernet Sauvignon blend, Chardonnay, and a single vineyard Riesling. Here, I review the 2014 Rosé and 2013 Cabernet/Syrah. www.bielerandsmith.com
