Charles Wiffen 2013 Pinot Gris and 2011 Gewurztraminer

25-Aug-2014
The wines in the Charles Wiffen range are somewhat understated in how they appear label-wise and taste-wise. It’s this quietness that constitutes their stylishness. However their quality and style are very much appreciated by wine consumers and judges alike, this discrediting the theory that these two groups are not the same! The Charles Wiffen wines have a loyal following that rewards the excellent fruit from the Wiffen family vineyards in Marlborough’s Lower Wairau and Southern Valleys tended by Jason Tripe and Melissa Sutherland, as the winemaking at West Brook winery by Anthony Ivicevich and James Rowan. While the whole range is strong, there is reason to say that the aromatic wines are the standouts, the Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Rieslings consistent gold medal winners. Here, I review the new release 2013 Pinot Gris and 2011 Gewurztraminer. www.charleswiffenwines.co.nz
