Clearview Releases the 2009 Reserve Chardonnay

02-Nov-2010
The Clearview ‘Reserve' Chardonnay remains one of this country's best, though with a number of other wines joining it at the top level, it seems to have its presence diminished. This is not to say the wine is any lesser in quality and standing; far from it as it is still an outstanding wine. But the style has changed – evolved is a better term – over the past few years, and for the better in today's world. Clearview's winemaker Barry Riwai has helped Tim Turvey tighten up the structure, built in more finesse and elegance, and in doing so has made the wine one that will match the dinner table and age better. However, you can't take the Tim Turvey exuberance and the Te Awanga terroir away from the wine. It is still a full-on style. The 2009 has come available and it underscores its place as an icon. Already, it has captured a gold medal at the 2010 Liquorland IWS, and a 5 star rating in ‘Winestate'. www.clearviewestate.co.nz
