Named after Sylvanus J Cotterell, a Quaker surveyor who charted the Waimea district in Nelson and was earliest to chart the Wairau region of Marlborough, the ‘Cotterell 1843' brand, the date marking his death at the age of 23 years of age in the ‘Wairau Affray', is produced by Spring Creek Vintners for the export market.
