Craggy Range 2010 Gimblett Gravels Collection

20-Mar-2012

When challenging vintages such as 2010 turn up, it is the experienced winegrowers with carefully managed and situated vineyards that rise above adversity. The season was one where ripening came late, giving many growers anxiety, but fine autumn conditions brought it all on track. My tastings of 2010 reds from Hawke's Bay show a lovely elegance in weight and structure, but with extremely attractive aromatics as if to compensate for the lesser size compared to the more powerful and riper 2009s. The Craggy Range vineyards are precision-managed, and with their Gimblett Gravels provenance, the Bordeaux varietal red and Syrah wines seem to have extra layers of richness built into them. Here are my reviews of the three Gimblett Gravels Collection wines just released. www.craggyrange.com
