Crossroads – Balancing the Yealands Marlborough Show

15-Feb-2013
The Crossroads winery was established in 1990 by Malcolm Reeves and Lester O'Brien who gradually grew the Fernhill winery to prominence with a strong range of Hawke's Bay varietals and a flagship mystery blend named the ‘Talisman'. Crossroads took a major leap forward in 2000 when purchased by Wellington financier Peter Cutfield's Ager Sectus company, and again when The Crossings winegrowing operation in the Awatere became part of the group. In 2011, the Ager Sectus wine business merged with Yealands, and became part of one of the most significantly sized wine business in the country. Nowadays, Crossroads plays an important role providing a balance to the predominantly Awatere and Marlborough sourced wines for the Yealands group, with a focus on Hawke's Bay wines, in particular the reds. Winemaking is under the care of Miles Dinneen and James Ostergren and the vineyards tended by Bryon Strachan. I review a selection of the latest Crossroads wines. www.crossroadswines.co.nz
