Crossroads ‘Talisman’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

23-Sep-2015
As part of the Yealands Wine Group since 2011, Crossroads continues the founding aim of producing first-class Hawke’s Bay wine, balancing the predominantly Awatere sourced portfolio of the company. Winemaker Miles Dinneen, with Crossroads since 2004 is supplied by high quality fruit by viticulturist Byron Strachan from the ‘Home’ vineyard in Fernhill complemented by the development of the inland ‘Kereru’ vineyard and four vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels area, these being the ‘Bridgeman’, ‘Southbank’, ‘Elms’ and ‘Mere’. For celebrating 25 years since the land was purchased in 1987 to establish the Crossroads vineyard and winery, the fruit from the ‘Elms’ vineyard was designated for special treatment and a special bottling of Syrah was chosen to be made in the outstanding 2013 Hawke’s Bay vintage. The wine joins the ‘Talisman’ tier, named after the eponymous undisclosed red blend flagship. Just released, the wine has already won the trophy for Champion Syrah at the 2015 Bragato Wine Awards. I review the wine here. www.crossroadswines.co.nz
