Domaine Rewa Central Otago

30-Jan-2015
Domaine Rewa is the Central Otago vineyard and wine venture of Philippa Shepherd, a New Zealander living in London. A Francophile, she has been inspired by the wines of Burgundy. Her 5.5 ha ‘Epicurious Vineyard’ in Lowburn, in the foothills of the Pisa Range, was established in 1997 and is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The vineyard is tended by Grant Rolston and Gary Ford of Vinewise who employ biodynamic regimes. Philippa has Pete Bartle of VinPro as her winemaker, the first Domaine Rewa wines from the 2011 vintage. Production will be limited to around 850 cases made annually. Here, I review the 2014 ‘Rosie’ Rosé, 2013 Riesling and Chardonnay, and Pinot Noirs from 2011 to 2013. The Pinot Noirs already show a very consistent style of elegance and fine-grained tannin structure. www.domainerewa.com
