Dry River – 2012 Autumn Release

24-Feb-2012

The ‘Autumn Release' from Dry River is one that many New Zealand wine lovers anticipate most, as it has the base-line wines that have made the label famous. The tiny production and strict allocation process makes the wines extremely difficult to source and the wines are thus highly sought-after. Often the only way to taste the wines is at the release tastings which are promoted to the Dry River mail order database. This release will not have Dr Neil McCallum in attendance as he has now fully retired from Dry River. It will also be the last release that will be graced by winemaker Poppy Hammond, as she too has stepped down after seeing the 2012 harvest through to its conclusion, to join her husband Shayne in setting up a new hospitality and wine venture just over the road from Dry River. Wilco Lam, who has been worked in Martinborough a number of years, the last two as Poppy's right-hand man at Dry River, will be stepping into the winemaker role. With the vineyard and winemaking regimes fully established, and the Dry River operation under the watchful eye of highly experienced Ant Mackenzie based at sister winery Te Awa/Kidnapper Cliffs, it will be business as usual. The flow of exceptional wines under the Dry River label will assuredly continue. www.dryriver.co.nz
