Duran ‘Gran Reserva’ Cava 2009 Brut Nature and Brut

31-Jul-2014
Ramon Canals is the third generation of his family dedicated to the vine and winemaking. ‘Duran’ is the brand of his premium Cava wines from the Penedes region of Spain, the business established in 2002, releasing the first wines in 2007. The ‘Gran Reserva’ wines feature the traditional Xarel.lo, Macabeu and Parellada varieties with the international Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The limited production wines are vintaged, undergo a minimum of 30 months aging on lees and incorporate techniques to maximise the interaction with the yeast. Ramon has studied and vintaged in Champagne, England, California, Australia and New Zealand with premium sparkling winemakers to further his expertise in the style to develop his Duran wines. Here, I review the 2009 ‘Brut Nature’ and ‘Brut’. www.cavaduran.com
