Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

06-Jul-2015
Elephant Hill is particularly well-known for its Syrah and Bordeaux-styled reds where considerable progress has been made in producing wines that stand tall among the best of Hawke’s Bay. In the same league, but somewhat under the radar are the white wines, designed to show the elegance of the cooler coastal Te Awanga vineyard. The Chardonnay in recent vintages has demonstrated the finer style that loses nothing in the way of complexity and interest to wines from the warmer, inland districts. To retain freshness, winemaker Steve Skinner avoids the use of MLF. Here, I review the new 2014 release. www.elephanthill.co.nz
