Ellero 2011 Aromatics and 2010 Pinot Noir

12-Oct-2012
With three decades of winemaking and wine selling in California, John Montero and Roberta Manell Montero, have the experience to recognise styles of wine that are not only true to the land, but also please the palates of drinkers in any part of the world. They settled in Central Otago after considering Burgundy and Oregon to grow and Pinot Noir, purchasing their 16 ha ‘Pisa Terrace' vineyard in 2000. As well as 7 ha of Dijon clones, UCD5 and Abel Pinot Noir, they have a small amount of Riesling. The Pinot Noir 2009 I tasted in November last year was gentle and harmonious, and had attractive approachability. This review covers the 2011 Riesling from their site, a 2011 Gewurztraminer from fruit sourced from Terra Sancta, where Roberta makes the Ellero wines, and the 2010 Pinot Noir, from their ‘Pisa Terrace' vineyard. www.ellerowine.com
