Ellero Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

05-Nov-2011
John Montero and Roberta Manell Montero came to Central Otago to make Pinot Noir following their three decades of experience in California making wine and selling it. They saw Burgundy, Oregon and Central Otago as the best places to grow the variety, so purchased their 16 ha ‘Pisa Terrace' vineyard site in 2000 and planted 7 ha of Dijon clones, UCD5 and Abel plus a tiny amount of Riesling. To combat the Nor'wester wind, they have set up an 8 metre high windscreen to protect the vines. The vineyard is managed organically and the wines made by John and Roberta at the Bannockburn Premium Winemaking facility at Terra Sancta (formerly the Olssens winery). Ellero is a combination of their names Manell and Montero. www.ellerowine.com
