Envoy – Wines to be Envious Of

05-Feb-2011
There's certainly no secret to the success of Spy Valley and its wines. High quality fruit from nearly 400 ha of estate grown fruit in the Waihopi Valley made into wines that are archetype for the Marlborough region, and priced to deliver very good value. That was the concept from the start for founders Bryan and Jan Johnson when they released their first wines from the 2000 vintage. However the top ‘Envoy' wines, first released in 2007 are something else. Made from small parcels of distinctive fruit sourced from the best of the Johnson family estate blocks, winemaker Paul Bourgeois enables the terroir that viticulturist Adam McCrone has encouraged in the grapes be expressed by minimal intervention. Their individuality must surely the envy of many. www.spyvalleywine.co.nz
