Eureka Wines 2013 Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc Straw Wine

07-Jul-2014
For wine lovers with an adventurous spirit and a global outlook, the Eureka wines of Hugh Girling and Stephen Rae from Marlborough will interest you. Their take on winemaking is more about employing techniques and equipment that may not be common in New Zealand, but are well recognised and accepted in other parts of the world. Maturation in acacia wood rather than oak, or concentrating grapes on a bed of straw are classical elsewhere, and wines made in New Zealand using such methods will lead to something individual, if not unique. Here, I review two 2013 wines from Hugh and Stephen. www.eurekawines.co.nz
