Fairbourne and Two Tails

03-Apr-2012

With a combined wine industry experience nearing half a century, Sarah Inkersell and Russell Hooper have expertise that belies their youthful demeanour. Sarah has been making wine since 1993 and Russell marketing and selling Marlborough wine since the late 1980s. Their specialist knowledge of the soils, sites, styles of Sauvignon Blanc led them to specialise solely on this variety. Their passion and enthusiasm for the variety grown in Marlborough has seen two labels emerge. ‘Two Tails', first made in 2004, is an approachable style, labelled after an encounter with two rare black indigenous fantails (piwakawaka), and the more nuanced, origin-reflecting ‘Fairbourne' wine, first vintage in 2008, which is an ultra-premium expression, named after the sub-region of Marlborough where Sarah and Russell live.  Here are reviews of the 2011 vintage wines, which are attractively elegant in expression.  www.fairbourne.co.nz
